Let’s Try Something Else, This Ain’t Working

Dear Editor,

Hypocrisy has been simmering for far too long within our Black community on campus. As we prepare for the “cloutavism” of Black History Month, it is time to address the elephant, or should I say screaming babies in the room that are preventing us from truly being a united and thriving community.

Let’s face the reality that our so-called “leaders” seem to be more concerned with loading their resumes than actually making a positive impact on our community. It is disheartening to witness the decisions being made not for the benefit of our entire community but as strategic moves in a personal career game. Organization leaders should be hired based on dedicated membership, not friendship and “Greek status.” We deserve leaders who genuinely care about the well-being of our community.

Now it’s time to call out the big mouths who love to hear the sound of their loud voices but contribute little to no meaningful work. Unfortunately, the norm has become that many individuals within our community are all talk. Empty promises and threat declarations seem to be the order of the day, leaving us with little to show for all the noise. Talk about all bark no bite.

The high school drama that persists within our community is nothing short of embarrassing. It’s astonishing that supposedly mature and educated individuals continue to engage in petty behavior reminiscent of adolescence. We are not in high school anymore, grow up. We are not OTF and 4KT. No one is getting paid to be in cliques.

We must acknowledge these issues and work collectively to create a community that is truly united, with leaders who prioritize the community over personal gain, individuals who back their words with meaningful actions, and a general atmosphere of maturity and respect.

Let this letter serve as a wake-up call to our university community. It’s time to shed the pretenses, hold ourselves accountable, and strive for the greatness that our community deserves.

Sincerely,

A Fed-Up Student
